The Old Testament is full of references to Biblical men, such as Solomon, David, and others, who had not only multiple wives, but also harems of concubines at their disposal. Today the practice of polygyny (one man having multiple wives) is illegal in most places. Although we can acknowledge polygyny in principal, we must recognize and honor the primacy and priority of the marriage bond between one husband and one wife. Whenever a third party is introduced into this equation, it must only be to support and strengthen the existing marriage bond between those two individuals. So, if bringing in another woman would in any way undermine the relationship between husband and wife, it should not be pursued.

Playing by God’s Rules

If, on the other hand, a married couple feels their relationship would benefit from them establishing a loving involvement another woman, out of respect for the couple’s marriage, and out of respect for any marital attachments of the other woman, they must abide by certain limits and conditions:

(1) To avoid the impropriety of male homosexuality, a heterosexual couple should not under any circumstances form a threesome with another man.
(2) Both women involved in the threesome must be willing to keep within traditional female roles (i.e., not taking on masculine appearance or behavior in or out of the bedroom) and recognize the male as the leader in the relationship.
(3) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is unmarried, it may be permissible for the husband to have relations with her only with his wife’s consent.
(4) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is unmarried, but the wife does not wish her to have relations with the other woman, the husband should respect this.
(5) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is married, her husband must not have objections to the relationship.
(6) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is married, the husband should refrain from having any sexual relations with her, and should make every effort to control his fantasies about her. He should concentrate his attention on his own wife.

You might as well admit that what you want to do is have a rollickin’ good time and stop pretending that it can fit with ‘Christianity’. I mean, go for it…stop being afraid!

It is a sin to have sex outside of your spouse whether you be male or female. It’s in the Bible and you can’t change it to be what you want it to be. Don’t get married if you plan to be an adulterer.

  • anon

What if the spouse is there and into it? If everyone agrees, how is it adultery? Also, the old testament talks of a few important men who had multiple wives, such as Abraham. Since we are talking specifically about Christianity here, I’ll also mention the Mormons. Is it adultery to have a threesome with your two wives?

This is absolutely ridiculous and a perversion of solid biblical teaching. Shame on whoever wrote this.

Here’s the thing about the Bible…

There are those people who say it is the word of God, which is a pretty interesting proposition since it has implications for how able humans are to understand it.

There are those who say it is an inspired work written by humans, which also has interesting consequences: specifically that the humans who wrote the “New Testament” did so about 1800 years ago, and the world they wrote about isn’t the world we live in anymore.

There are those who say the Bible must be “interpreted literally,” but this is clearly oxymoronic because the 12th century practice of Scholasticism ultimately showed that people can differ in their literal interpretations.

There are those who say the Bible cannot be understood by lay-people. These people chose to read from the Bible in Latin even if no one actually understood Latin anymore.

There are those who say the Bible can be interpreted by the reader, a la Luther and Gutenberg.

There are those who consider the Bible to be a viral cultural artifact based on a superstition created by a guy named Abraham.

There are those who translate and transcribe the Bible from one language to another, thereby introducing an invisible editorial hand that interprets and sometimes makes errors.

There are those who see the Bible as a political document, like Emperor Constantine in 325AD, who convened the first Council of Nicaea (which established the canonical 4-book Gospel).

… and there are those who wrote Gospels that were mostly forgotten by time (but just might have made it into the Apocrypha).

There are those who consider “King James” to have created the definitive Bible, although this was written in 1611. …and there are those who consider King James to have himself altered the Bible, and have created newer translations from source documentation.

I’m not sure where you fit in, but it’s interesting it seems that you believe you know the correct interpretation of the Bible.

So… which one is it? …because I don’t claim to know.

Jesus was a big fan of the commandment to “Love thy neighbor as thyself” (Matthew 22:39).

So, if you got two neighbors … what’s the problem?

They should have trust in the first place as a foundation on any relationship.

I cannot find anything against it except where paul asks preachers and teachers to be men of one wife.

  • Jacob

That's fine, except Paul is not Jesus or God, he's a human and open to making mistakes. Personally, I would say it is immoral to have two wives, or one wife and a lover, but I can't speak for everyone. Obviously we live in different times from the old days where it was acceptable to treat women like property. It seems some of the people commenting here believe that is enough justification to have a threesome. I would disagree. However, it's very hard for me to believe that if a man and two women are all in agreement about a threesome, that it should be considered adultery. I do think the normal rules about homosexuality should apply. It would not be right for two men to have sex while the woman watched, but one man alternating between two women seems like it fits within the bounds of Christianity quite well.

The Bible talks about David, Abraham and other male figures in the bible having more than one wife, but never does it say they all slept with each other at the same time…This act fall under the category of laciviousness and uncleanness. when Sarah gave Hagar to her Husband she did so in the pursuit to have a child ans I can bet you a penny she did not watch Abraham know Sarah… I wish people Stop trying to change God's word to conform to their Demon filed carnal minds. He said in the end they would be lover of pleasure more than God, and they were going to have itching ears to hear another Gospel. Paul Said some where going to pervert the truth… Just be truthful with yourselves and stop trying to Change Gods word to fit your life….. if you want a threesome just have one ok , but leave God out of it
