The annual “Christman Price Index” by PNC Bank is out. Given the economic downturn, even the most romantic might balk at the price tag for the items in the carol, ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’.

James P. Dunigan deadpans his way through a dissection of how terrible our times have become. It’s actually pretty funny, insofar as it’s completely humorless. The bottom line is this: if not for the swans, things wouldn’t look so grim, because most of the other items from the song are based on human labor, which has suffered at a comparable rate.

That’s right: it’s swans that are recession proof. You, and your skills, are the real risk.
