WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING…. We are, oddly enough, just a few hours away from some states wrapping up voting for the day. It’s probably a good time to talk a little about tonight’s schedule.

At 6 p.m. eastern, the polls will close in Indiana and Kentucky.

For the past couple of election cycles, these two are called by the networks almost immediately, and are considered reliably Republican states. Tonight, Indiana may prove to be more interesting, with polls showing a close contest. Obama wouldn’t necessarily need Indiana to get to 270, but if he wins the state’s 11 electoral votes, it will reinforce the notion that McCain is in for a long night. (Also note, there are parts of Indiana, most notably Gary, where the polls won’t close until 7 p.m. eastern.)

At 7 p.m. eastern, the polls will close in most of Florida, most of New Hampshire, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, and Vermont.

Obviously, there are some key electoral prizes here. If McCain loses Virginia, his paths to 270 shrink considerably. If McCain loses Florida, his chances all but disappear. Also, keep an eye on Georgia, where turnout has been amazing.

At 7:30 p.m. eastern, the polls will close in Ohio, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

While West Virginia is not in play, both Ohio and North Carolina are home to an intense GOTV effort from the Obama campaign. Polls show Obama with a slight edge in Ohio, and McCain with an edge in N.C.

Good summary of the entire night’s festivities. If you’re in the East, it’s all over by 7:30. …then, it’s just a matter of hearing the tally from Ohio, Virginia, and Florida.

Presidential Election 2008 FAQ

2008/11/04/1356

RTFA: http://norvig.com/election-faq.html#final

This is an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions list) for the 2008 United States Presidential Election. I need to disclose up front that I am an Obama supporter. However, with the exception of the very last question, this FAQ is designed as a collection of factual information (such as the latest poll results) and of analysis that is as objective as possible.

Peter Norvig, the computer scientist, has put together a VERY LENGTHY and excellent FAQ about the election. Highly recommended.

This day is taking too long. I am going to block my blog aggregator.

OBAMA WINS! Karl Rove exclusive

2008/11/03/2206

RTFA: http://rove.com/election

The final Rove & Co. electoral map of the 2008 election cycle points to a 338-200 Barack Obama electoral vote victory over John McCain tomorrow, the largest electoral margin since 1996. All remaining toss-up states have been allocated to the candidate leading in them, with Florida (27 EV) going to Obama, and Indiana (11 EV), Missouri (11 EV), North Carolina (15 EV), and North Dakota (3 EV) going to McCain. The two candidates are in a dead heat in Missouri and North Carolina, but they go to McCain because the most recent polls conducted over this past weekend show him narrowly ahead. Florida, too, could end up in McCain’s column since he’s benefited from recent movement in the state.

karl rove obama

Karl Rove officially appointed W. Bush as the US President in 2000 and 2004, so we can basically forgo the formality of casting our ballots on November 4.

That’s right: Rove has decided who the president will be, and that person is:

Obama.

However, don’t be fooled! Allow me to explain the strategy. The way this one works is that people in swing states will be extra-certain to get out to vote when they see that “the other guy” is predicted to win. Rove WANTS to be wrong – he will take one to the ego this time. The goalie has been pulled… There’s time for one 90-yard Hail Mary… Rove’s ace-up-the-sleeve is: prove how wrong he is, so that “his guy” wins. That’s right: a third term for Bush. Martial Law! They’ll never see it coming… Rove is a GENIUS.
