update: users can’t register to become subscribers

2009/01/01/1304

Almost no one has registered as a subscriber, and now RTFA is getting repeated registrations from a big Polish cellphone provider. I’m not aware of a current wordpress vulnerability, but all the same, I think I will close off subscriber registration.

I really appreciate the subscriptions, so please use the “subscribe” link at the top of the page to grab the RSS feed. Thanks! Sorry if this is an inconvenience for anyone…

rtfa.net improvements

2008/11/30/2245

RTFA: http://www.rtfa.net/

Howdy, RTFA readers. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I made a number of changes to the blog that I think will improve your experience. Here are some of the biggest:

* faster page load times (cached output is now compressed)
* search is actually VERY GOOD by this point
* the skin has been modified to look … better
* more text will fit on your screen at once
* fewer dead links: catch-all redirect for categories that wordpress 2.6 converted to tags
* cleaner interface for posting stories to Digg, Reddit, etc

Anything I missed? Anything I messed up? Please post feedback to this story.
